HINDRANCES TO SUCESS IN LIFE
By Pastor Peter Kayongo
I greet you all my dear friends in Jesus’s name!! This is the day that the Lord has made!
About our topic today, No matter how carefully we plan our time, we will now and then run into obstacles. They might be interruptions, miscommunications, cancellations, or delays. We have no control over many of these types of situations, but we are able to change certain kinds of hindrances.
We can, for example, adjust misplaced priorities. Consider how often we allow others to dictate how we spend our time. Instead of maintaining a God-centered schedule, we may be responding to the demands of other people, permitting them to decide our activities without regard for what God has in mind for us.
Circumstances can also determine our schedule, if we permit. But we cannot succeed in life if we let ourselves be drawn away from what God wants. Investing time in the Word and learning God’s ways must be an integral part of our schedule.
Another hindrance to reaching our goal is procrastination. I believe,We all experience this on occasion, but for some of us, putting things off has become a habit. When that’s the case, we no doubt have many good intentions but lack follow-through. Success will evade us as long as we dally.
A third hindrance that we can work to overcome is lack of concentration. To be successful, we must focus our minds on a particular task and stay with it until it is finished. Having a strong motivation to achieve the Lord’s plan is helpful, as we work at completing what we value and desire. How important to you is achieving the Lord’s plan? Align your thinking and your time with His ways, and success—in God’s eyes—will follow.
Things That Hinder Your Success And How To Overcome Them
I know and believe that so many gifted and talented people who aren’t using their creativity. They can’t see their own worth because they’re too busy focusing on their limitations. Listen, no one is perfect. We all have weaknesses. We all have areas we need to improve in. Still, each of us here possesses everything we need, to do what God has called us to do.
If you’re ready to see new levels of productivity in your life my dear friends, there are five things I would like to share with you, that you need to stop doing. I’ve listed them below:
1. Stop looking over Your Shoulder
You can’t move forward if you’re always looking behind you to see what somebody else is doing. Track runners are told, “When running a race, you should never look over your shoulder to look at what your opponent is doing. It slows you down and breaks your concentration. Also, it’s a sign of weakness to the person who is gaining on you.” Apply this lesson to your own life.
2. Stop Comparing Yourself to Other People
Even if someone is doing what you’re doing, you are unique and there’s no one else like you anywhere. No one can do it like you! You don’t have to worry about what someone else is working on, because they’re skill set isn’t the same as yours. They can’t bring to the table what you can. Think about it. There are thousands of businesses, ministries, books and products that are very similar. They have primarily the same function. But there is something unique in each one. Instead of comparing yourself to other people get to work and “Make it do what it do baby.”
3. Stop Second-guessing Your Ideas
You can’t spend the rest of your life tossing things over in your mind and doubting whether you know what you’re talking about. You have to embrace your own brilliance. You have to recognize your gift and your expertise. You have to see it first, before anyone else can see it. Don’t make the mistake of looking for someone else to validate your ideas before you implement them. Just begin acting on what’s inside your head and watch it become a reality. It will come together if you continue to work at it.
4. Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time
I cannot stress this enough. There is absolutely, positively, unequivocally, no such thing as the perfect time! “The right time is right now.” The longer you wait . . . the longer you’ll wait . . . and the longer you’ll wait. Then, you’ll convince yourself that you’ve waited too long and end up not doing anything at all. Get up and get going.
Don’t misunderstand me. You should always consult the Lord for His direction. However, if He doesn’t forbid you to move forward, then be about it!
5. Stop Focusing on what You don’t Have
This is so important to remember. When you’re working to achieve anything in your life, there will always be a shortage of something. You may feel that you need more: Money, connections, knowledge, experience, support, or any number of things. Although you may not feel like it, you have everything you need already, because the Lord is on your side.
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 NKJV).
Instead of worrying, start working. Trust me; I know what it’s like to branch out into new territory. Believe me when I say, if you’ll only trust God and trust the gift of God in you, things will work out for you!
You have within you, right now, the power to amaze yourself. All that’s left to do is tap into that power!
6.Lack of Persistence
We can’t just watch from the stands as our life goes by. Fulfill your purpose with conviction, persistence, and dedication. Any successful person will tell you they had the grit to make things happen consistently.
7.Pride
Thinking we did this by our own skill. Every sin is rooted in selfishness and pride. If we aren’t careful, we’ll slip into a pattern of making up our own rules as we go. We’ll accept some parts of the Bible and forget the rest because we think the rules don’t apply to us.
8.Fear
Of the unknown or of failure. Fear is crippling and can paralyze us from moving forward if we let it.
9.Impatience
We force things instead of waiting on God. I’m as impatient as the next person but we have to patient when it comes to making decisions, especially life-altering decisions.
So these are some of the top 9 things that can keep us from God’s best. It’s also important to not walk through every open door (opportunity) or listen to everyone’s advice (when it contradicts God). We have to use knowledge and discernment together to make wise decisions as well.
One final thing I’d like to add is that we need to stay strong in the midst of pressure to conform. If you haven’t noticed, everyone has a strong opinion these days. A population of them don’t just have an opinion, they turn it into a demand that everyone should follow.
“You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.” 1 Thessalonians 5:5-6 (NIV)
We don't follow popular opinion or our emotions. We follow the Word of God!
We are set apart and different from the world. Staying resolute in our faith and grounded in the Word will help keep us on track. Stay strong no matter what life throws at you friend and watch God’s best unfold in your life!
A Prayer For You
Lord Jesus, thank You for all that You are doing in my life. I know You have called me to do great things. Please show me what You want me to do. Help me to not grow weary in doing Your will. Give me the persistence, wisdom, and focus to fulfill my destiny. In Jesus’ name, amen.
What advice would you give to those trying to fulfill their purpose?
Stay Hopeful!
Until next time . . . may you be empowered to prosper!
Be blessed!!
